2008 grant of $1500 to buy a sound system
Melody, age 15:
“When we received the grant, I jumped up and down waving the paper around and was screaming because we were so amped up and excited! It was cool to receive endorsement from people who believe in you and what you’re doing enough to support you with giving you what you need, which in our case was a sound system. It makes you feel like you need to live up to the expectations that are given to you and causes you to work harder and play prouder!”
Allison, age 15:
“We’ve performed in churches, for small town celebrations, at Cowtown, Exploration Place, Victorian House Tours in Wichita and lots of Kiwanis meetings, even their State convention. We perform at 4-H events, Colby Pickin' on the Plains, Bluegrass at the Marriott and the Walnut Valley Festival. Because of the acoustic instruments we play (not plugged in), having our own sound system allows us to actually be heard when we perform. This helps people to really hear our music. We are looking forward to doing programs in elementary schools this year to share our love of music with the students.”
Danielle, age 13:
“Sometimes when we perform they either don't have a sound system, don't have a good sound system or don't have enough microphones for all our instruments and voices. Having our own sound system will take care of that. We will be heard and be able to hear ourselves during practices too. I would like to give Ms. Koch a big shout-out and all the people on the selection committee. THANKS SO MUCH!!!!!!”
